WHAT IS ABA?

ABA stands for Applied Behavior Analysis, a scientific approach to understanding different behaviors. It is a method of therapy that uses evidence based interventions to improve or change specific behaviors. ABA therapy may be used to improve behaviors such as social skills, reading, academics, and communication as well as learned skills like grooming, hygiene, fine motor dexterity, and job proficiency.

STARTING TREATMENT

ABA Services include a three-step process: assessment, treatment, and training

Assessment

  1. Phone consultation
  2. Complete an intake form and submit the necessary documents
  3. We will verify your benefits and eligibility for ABA services
  4. Meet with parents, guardians and/or caretakers to obtain full history and gain understanding of concerns
  5. Assessment with a BCBA or BCaBA
  6. Our trained and qualified providers will develop an individualized Treatment Plan
  7. A pre-authorization form along with a copy of the preliminary treatment plan is submitted to your insurance. (The number of hours requested for ABA therapy varies and is individualized based on your child’s specific needs).

Treatment

  1. Once we receive approval, your child is assigned a behavior technician (BT/RBT), who will begin 1:1 pairing with your child.
  2. Once pairing is complete, the implementation of 1:1 Comprehensive ABA Treatment begins.
  3. Your child's progress is tracked daily. Ongoing assessments are used for new skill development.
  4. Family support, training, and guidance is provided throughout treatment.

*Please note, the pairing process is essential in developing a fun, working relationship with our clients. The purpose of pairing is to establish yourself as the ultimate reinforcer — the giver of all good things. To establish this rapport, there are two key rules to follow: provide reinforcement and limit demands.

The pairing process can take anywhere from 1-3 weeks.

Training

  1. Parent training or coaching will began at the onset of treatment. This will involve meeting monthly with your child's BCBA
  2. As the child progresses, direct treatment may be faded out and the child may “graduate” from therapy! When this happens, parent training may continue. This is to ensure that progress is maintained and to offer solutions as new challenges emerge.
